About the Author

O’Dell was born in a small rural town in Idaho. There were no Redeemers living there (that he knows of). After attending college in the Pacific Northwest, he found his way to the Houston area. By day, he is a Business Systems Analyst and at night you can either find him sitting at home, dreaming of random super powers he wishes he had, or directing plays and musicals at various theaters around Houston.

Ashley's Review

I honestly have no idea where to start with this book. It was not at all what I expected, but I think it was unexpected in a good way. I was looking forward to a YA novel with a little bit of a paranormal touch, but what I got was something much more than that. It was super weird and creepy and pretty crazy, but still something that I found myself not wanting to put down. I became so invested in this book and that surprised me so much.

I didn't really expect to like Cait very much. I mean, she's got all of these problems and she kind of complains a lot, but the more time I spent in her head, the more I started to like her and actually feel for her. Her family has serious secrets and a lot of strange issues and nothing about her life is very "normal." I thought O'Dell did a really great job with telling the story from her point of view. There wasn't too much exposition that wouldn't make sense inside someone's head. The story is confusing at first, since she has more information than the reader, but details come up throughout the story and the pieces fall together easily, just like a puzzle.

I also really enjoyed getting to know Cait's friends. Jeb is great right from the beginning, and I was really hesitant about Chastity but ended up loving her by the end - even if she did make bad life decisions. She does the best she can with the cards she's been dealt. And then there's Trevor. He's kind of aloof and maybe a bit of a jerk when Cait gets to town, but it's totally understandable. And then, as expected, things go back to the way they used to be.... only better. I adored Trevor, and I think he and Cait make such a fantastic couple. I will be anxiously awaiting the next book (because I will be SO MAD if there is not a next book), to see what happens with them.

The Redeemers are kind of terrifying, but I loved how real mythology is mixed in with the mythology of the town. I love when books do that, and I love learning about new stories that might not be as prevalent in popular culture. I will definitely be looking into the legend mentioned in Fingers in the Mist!  Especially in anticipation of the second book.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a creepy, paranormal read that's way out of the ordinary. Fingers in the Mist was weird, but really great, and I can't wait to see what O'Dell has up his sleeves next! A 4/5 for sure.
