Why?: A circus, magic, and mystery? This sounds like EXACTLY the kind of book I would love! Plus, Strange Chemistry has not disappointed me yet, so I was really excited to find a book like this from them!
Expectations: I expect a lot of circus fun and mystery. Plus quit a bit of world building, because you can't have a good fantasy novel without excellent world building. I really want to know Micah and Gene's stories, and see how they end up becoming one. What are the balancing acts that they have to perform? What could they possible know or do that could change their world? And what does "Pantomime" have to do with the whole thing?
Judging a book by its cover: The cover looks like something from a masquerade rather than a circus, but it definitely intrigued me. I would probably pick it up if I saw it on a bookshelf somewhere, since I'm all for masquerades and circuses and pantomimes. But it's not really very striking or anything, so I don't know if it would catch the attention of many readers.
